To celebrate National Poetry Day, on the 4th October, the children were lucky enough to meet and work with Terry Caffrey. Terry is an extremely talented performance poet. He is poet in residence at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester and the Citadel Theatre in St Helens. Terry was commissioned to write by the Roald Dahl Foundation and had the lyrics to one of his songs (originally a poem) chosen to be one of the official children’s songs for the 2012 Olympics.

All of the children in school spent time learning and performing one of Terry’s poems and they learnt how to create small books as a way into publishing their own stories and poems. They all had a wonderful time and are looking forward to continuing to learn about different forms of poetry in their classes over the next few weeks.
